Alamo USA

Alamo USA Rental Terms for travel between 01-Jan-2010 and 31-Dec-2012

Emergency Road Assistance/Accident Report
Renters must notify Alamo within 24 hours of any accident, and will likely be required to complete an accident report for Alamo's records and their own. This report is for both parties' protection, and is particularly important if the renters have purchased a waiver of damage. Statements made may become a permanent part of the accident report. Renters must be truthful and accurate, as statements may be used in legal claims.

Once the accident report is completed, renters should be able to continue the trip. Renters should be sure to save all original receipts stating the reason for purchase of parts or labor, and the amounts.

Within Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, renters must complete a report form at the time of the incident. These forms are provided at the start of the rental period. Dependent on the circumstances of the accident, Alamo reserves the right not to supply a replacement vehicle right away.

Alamo customers in need of emergency road side service anywhere in Latin America or the Caribbean can call the specific number(s) provided at the pick up location at time of rental.

Alamo customers in need of 24-Hour Emergency Roadside Assistance in the United States and Canada should call 1-800-803-4444 for help. The call is automatically routed to the nearest open Alamo office. All accidents must be reported to the police and an accident report completed

Shuttle Bus Service
Shuttle bus service is offered at most Alamo locations though many airports have Alamo rental counters in the baggage claim areas. Bus service transports passengers between the airport and the Alamo rental facility located nearby.

Shuttle buses may not be permitted to stop at all curbside points so look for designated pickup areas as shuttle service buses come by regularly.

Insurance and Excess Reduction Policies are available - please enquire on arrival.
eg: Alamo Protection Plus (APP)*, Carefree Personal Protection - (PERSPR), Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Deductible Protection**,  Extended Protection***

* (APP is available at company owned locations only.)
**
Deductible Protection is available in most Latin America and Caribbean locations
*** (Note: EP is available at company owned locations. Where EP is not available, a similar product called SLI is offered although the terms, conditions, coverage and carriers will vary from EP.)

My own auto or umbrella policies or credit card coverage may provide rental car damage or loss coverage; however, Alamo cannot interpret or advise me with respect to what they may cover. The election of any optional insurance coverage or optional CDW offered by Alamo might duplicate, void or cause my own policies or credit card coverage to become excess coverage. The purchase of optional insurance coverages or optional CDW is not required to rent a Vehicle.

Liability Coverage Requirements
Alamo provides the minimum state financial liability coverage in the base rental rate only, where required by law and under certain Rate Codes. This coverage may only be applicable if the driver's personal auto policy provides no coverage or inadequate coverage.

Additional coverage is available including Master Cover and Personal Accident and Personal effects Insurance (Canada only)

Protection Options
As a renter, you have several options to protect yourself in case of accident, loss or damage to the vehicle. Liability insurance, not CDW, covers the driver against claims by others for bodily injury and property damage up to a specific limit. These options include: Roadside Plus, Super Personal Accident Insurance (SPAI), Supercover, Supplement Liability Insurance (SLI), Theft Protection (TP), Third Party Insurance (TPI), Zero Deductible Coverage. Please enquire at the counter.

Daily Rates
Daily rates will apply to all rentals less than five days (99 hours), with one day equaling a 24-hour period of time. Alamo starts counting a rental day at the time of rental pickup.

In the US and Canada, a minimum rental period of 24 hours is required for all rentals. Therefore, even if you rental is less than 24 hours, you will be charged for a full day.

Extra Days
Extra Days are daily charges in excess of a weekly rental.

Returning the Vehicle
Give yourself ample time to return your vehicle. While we pride ourselves on expediting the return, you may still need a few moments.

The vehicle is expected to be returned in the same condition as rented to the customer. Normal wear and tear is expected.

The vehicle should be checked for damage at the time of return both by you and your return agent. If there is damage, you may be required to fill out a damage report.

Make sure to take a copy of the damage report with you for any insurance and/or credit card reimbursement procedures.

If special cleaning is required for whatever reason, a separate charge will be made directly to the customer to cover the cost of any cleaning and/or repair work required.

Please book your one-way rentals in advance. Rentals that are returned within the same city could be subject to a drop charge. Certain one-way rentals, such as from San Francisco to Honolulu, (or vice versa) are not allowed.

Before taking your rental vehicle from one country to another, please check the rules for Authorised Driving Areas.

One way rentals are not allowed in the Caribbean except for St. Maarten/St. Martin.

One way rentals between the U.S. and Canada are available at participating locations.

Primary Renter
The primary renter is the driver that is listed first on the rental agreement. This person will be responsible for the Alamo vehicle.

Refunds
If a renter plans to pay in cash upon return of the vehicle, Alamo will credit the renter's credit card at the time the vehicle is returned.

If a renter has paid a cash deposit rather than using a credit card, the balance remaining, after charges are deducted from the deposit, is refunded at the end of the rental, or by mail depending on location.

Rental Agreement
The rental agreement is the contract between Alamo and the renter. It requires the renter's signature and lists total charges and conditions of rental.

Rental Extensions
When a customer wishes to extend a rental, the additional charges will be paid directly to the renting location at the current local rate. The original rate of rental is not guaranteed for the extended portion of the rental term.

All drivers must meet the renting location's minimum age requirements, have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and present a major credit card in his/her own name at the time of rental.

Reservation
A reservation is confirmation of a vehicle which is reserved for a customer at a particular location, on a specified date, at an agreed upon base rate price plus taxes, surcharges and fees. Taxes, surcharges and fees are subject to change. Modifications to a reservation could result in a change in rate.

Vehicles are reserved by rate code and vehicle category

Responsibility for Rental Vehicle
Alamo holds the renter responsible for the safe return of the rental vehicle in the same condition as it was rented, except for normal wear and tear.

Unless prohibited by law, a renter may be held responsible for all damages, including loss of use, should the vehicle be damaged in an accident, stolen or vandalized. This is the case regardless of fault. Whether who is at fault in the accident, the renter may be asked to pay for the damage up to and including the total cost of replacing the vehicle in case of a total wreck or loss.

Be sure any estimated damage to the vehicle has been recorded properly before leaving the rental location.

Currently, our normal one-way rental policy and pricing remain the same. We will adapt our business policies if the United States national situation impacts the travel industry.

Air Travel Suspension
If the U.S. Department of Transportation suspends air travel we will activate our special one-way rental policy. Alamo will waive all cancellation and no-show fees. For vehicles that are already on rent, we will waive any unauthorized drop fees/surcharges regardless of what Alamo locations the vehicles are returned to. For new rentals, Alamo will have no limit to the number of vehicles available for one-way travel, as has always been our practice.

Alert Status Change
Should the U.S. Department of Homeland Security change our alert status, we will immediately make all modifications to our policies available to you on our website, or by calling our reservation line at 1-800-462-5266 or for reservations outside North America 1-954-522-9696.
